The Italian flag flutters proudly alongside the Australian outside Michelini Wines, in the tree-lined main avenue of beautiful Myrtleford, giving a clue to the fascinating cultural mix found in this alpine corner of Victoria. The wines show it too, with Michelini now specialising in Italian grape varieties like Pinot Grigio, Barbera, Sangiovese, Marzemino and Fragolino. The Merlot is the pride of the Michelini stable, boasting vibrant red colour and violet fruit characters integrated with French oak. Like the Michelini family, Marzemino originates from the Trentino region in northern Italy, and this limited release wine displays deep colour, marzipan and chocolate notes on the nose and savoury finish. Another Italian variety, the Fragolino is made from the strawberry flavoured Fragola grape in a dessert style wine.
